What the site records

Death by PE collects company ownership records, transactions, operating outcomes, research, and firsthand reports. It includes investment firms, corporations, and family offices. Appearance in the database does not establish private equity ownership, misconduct, or harm.

Coverage is incomplete. A name-only entry, a sourced transaction, a reviewed outcome, and a published ownership assessment represent different amounts of research.

Sources and review

A recorded source identifies where a record came from. It is not, by itself, verification of every claim on the page. Reviewed evidence supports particular assertions. Dates and review labels apply to the records they accompany.

An acquisition followed by a closure, price increase, or bankruptcy does not by itself establish causation. Missing information remains unknown.

Outcomes and assessments

The Graveyard, Zombie, and Active / Distressed categories describe operating outcomes. Bankruptcy alone does not establish that a business stopped operating. Scored ownership assessments are a separate review under the assessment methodology.

Research, reports, and automation

The research list distinguishes academic publications, policy analysis, and journalism. It includes favorable and mixed findings. Study results do not establish outcomes at every company.

Firsthand reports describe contributors’ experiences. Email confirmation checks access to an inbox, not employment, dates, or the accuracy of an account. A number of reports does not automatically become an editorial finding.

News headlines are aggregated automatically and link to their original publishers. The X gallery is a dated selection of social posts. Neither is assessment evidence.

Corrections and responses

Use the correction form to identify an error, supply a source, or send a company response. Include the page URL and the specific statement at issue. Read published correction notes and the privacy notice before submitting personal information.
